Jack Black reveals he plans on retiring from acting after Jumanji: The Next Level

Jack Black has been travelling the world to promote his new movie Jumanji: The Next Level, with the actor revealing he’s about to retire from acting.

The 50 year old Black spoke to Balance, where he revealed that Jumanji: The Next Level, in theaters December 13, might be his last movie, though he’s not entirely sure yet.

‘Maybe one more movie. I'm kind of enjoying the idea of early retirement,’ Black said, before pausing and adding, ‘Not so early. I'm 50.’

He added that he still wants to make another record with his beloved rock group Tenacious D (with Kyle Gass), but he seems adamant about retiring as an actor.

‘I've been saying for a long time that this is the last movie. We'll see. I can't really say what my next thing is because it's too early; it's a jinxer,’ he said.

‘I've got a couple of tricks up my sleeve. But not too many. I'm looking to wrap it up pretty soon. Ride off into the sunset,’ he added, though this isn’t the first time he’s mentioned retirement.

When fans started to boo, Black continued, ‘No, I got the thing. I got the thing. I’ve made it!’

He then appeared on Live With Kelly and Ryan a few days later, when guest host Tiffany Haddish asked why he said that.

‘Why go on? Once you get the star, on the Hollywood Walk of Fame, you have achieved the highest level of awesomeness,’ he said, before ultimately ‘announcing’ he was not retiring.

Jokes aside, it seems Black is in fact serious about retirement, and when asked whether it’s to spend more time with his wife Tanya Haden and their sons, Samuel, 13, and Thomas, 11, he said that was a ‘big part of it.’

‘I don't like going away from Tanya and the boys,’ he said. ‘I spend too much time away from home. Maybe I'll do a TV show here in town, so I can work the 9 to 5 and then get back home.’

‘We'll see. I'm not a big five-year plan kind of guy though. I don't really look down the road. I kind of take it day by day,’ he said, adding that if director Quentin Tarantino ‘comes a-knocking, I’m gonna do that movie!’

Black joked about Tarantino vowing to retire after his 10th movie, rumored to be a Star Trek movie.

‘Tarantino likes to talk about doing his last movie too. He says there's only one movie left. It might be Star Trek. It might be who the hell knows? Maybe I'm going to pull a Tarantino and say, “Guys. I've done 99 movies. I'm going to do one more. Gonna go out on top!”‘

Jack has had such a storied career that he has even forgotten some of the roles he has taken as he talked about his favorite holiday film.

He told Variety on Monday: ‘My favorite holiday film – it's got to be Elf. Jon Favreau and Will Ferrell just knock it out of the park.’

Black was told he was being humble by not naming his own Christmas film which was met with confusion.

Jack said:  ‘Do I have a Christmas movie? Which one is mine?" he asked before he was reminded that he played Miles in The Holiday.

‘Oh, The Holiday!’ the comedian recalled. ‘Obviously, The Holiday! Nancy Meyers – genius.’

Jack Black’s potentially final movie, Jumanji: The Next Level, will hit theaters around the world on December 13.
