Halsey announces last-minute Melbourne show after Lorne Falls Festival is cancelled due to extreme weather… and all profits will go to Country Fire Services

Falls Festival in Lorne, Victoria, cancelled its remaining days of its four-day event on Sunday due to extreme weather and fire predictions.

And American singer-songwriter Halsey, 25, who was due to take the stage on Sunday night, has organised a stand-in concert for devastated fans.

The Bad At Love hit-maker will perform at The Forum and has vowed to donate the show’s profits to fire relief efforts via Country Fire Services.

Halsey’s four Falls Festival shows over the New Year’s period were billed as her ‘only Australian shows’ for fans to attend.

When news broke of the last-minute cancellation on Sunday morning, Halsey appeared just as shocked and devastated as her fans.

Taking to her Instagram at the time, she vowed: ‘I know how disappointed you guys are, so I will do everything in my power to make it up to you…. Sit tight.’

She said while it sucked she wasn’t able to perform at the festival, she praised organisers for taking the safety of festival-goers seriously.

Less than five hour later, Halsey returned to social media with a Melbourne show planned for fans. The 18+ show will start at 10pm at The Forum, with tickets listed at $30 pp.

‘Because of the Lorne Falls Festival cancellation, TONIGHT I’m playing a good old fashioned dirty show in MELBOURNE! I told you I’d come thru (sic),’ she wrote on Instagram.

The singer said fans who held Lorne Falls Festival tickets would get priority at the box office, but the show was also open to anyone who’d like to attend.

‘All profits are going to fire relief. DRIVE ON UP AND LETS DO THIS!’ Halsey added, mentioning in the post funds would be directed to Country Fire Services.

Australian DJs Alison Wonderland and Tori Levett praised Halsey for her kindness, writing: ‘This is why I STAN.’

Festival organisers Secret Sounds announced the cancellation on Sunday, saying conditions posed a risk to health and safety.

‘It is with a heavy heart we have had to cancel the remaining days of The Falls Festival in Lorne due to the predicted extreme weather conditions forecast for Monday December 30th in the Otways and surrounding region, creating a risk to health and safety due to potential fires, smoke, severe winds and tree hazards.

‘The decision has not been made lightly, our patron and staff safety is our priority,’ the statement said.

Worsening conditions are expected for the Otways region on Sunday, with temperatures expected to soar into the mid-30s.

Secret Sounds said they have consulted with local and regional fire authorities and were told there was no other option than to cancel the festival.

All patrons with a ticket for Lorne’s Fall Festival will be offered a full refund, including booking and payment processing fees.

Meanwhile, Halsey will appear at Marion Bay (South Australia), Byron Bay (New South Wales) and Fremantle’s (Western Australia) Fall Festival dates, as they are still going ahead as scheduled.
